Emma’s avontuur naar Tsjechië Emma is de allerliefste. Zacht, lief, vrolijk en met die bijzondere uitstraling die ons zo vaak aan haar moeder Merle doet denken. Er zit iets in haar blik, iets vertrouwds en ontroerends. Alsof Merle een stukje van zichzelf in Emma heeft achtergelaten. Voor Emma begon er een bijzonder avontuur. Samen met haar grote vriendin Bente zijn we afgereisd naar Tsjechië. Wanneer ik met mijn honden een langere reis maak, maken we er altijd iets bijzonders van. Dan zeg ik tegen de meisjes: “Kom op meiden, we gaan op avontuur!” En zodra ze die woorden horen, gaan ze volledig door het lint. Staarten omhoog, ogen vol verwachting, klaar voor wat er komen gaat. Ook deze keer was het zover. Midden in de nacht stapten we in de volgeladen auto. Alles mee, de meisjes veilig en tevreden achterin, en wij op weg richting Tsjechië. Een lange reis, maar met een bijzonder doel. De eerste dag gingen we natuurlijk langs voor een kennismaking. Niet alleen voor Emma en Herón, maar ook voor ons als mensen. We werden warm ontvangen door Olga, een lieve, gastvrije vrouw met een groot hart voor dieren. De meisjes werden overladen met lekkertjes en wij kregen koffie en iets lekkers. Het voelde meteen goed. Tsjechië liet zich van zijn mooiste kant zien. Een prachtig land om te wandelen, met veel ruimte, rust en vriendelijke mensen. Al snel hadden Emma en Bente het grootste plezier. Samen met Herón renden ze rond, speelden ze en blaften ze enthousiast naar de buurhonden. Het was prachtig om te zien hoe ontspannen alles ging. Toch was de reis voor Emma pas echt begonnen. Na de lange rit was rust belangrijk, dus vertrokken we richting ons appartement. De volgende dag stond de eerste progesteronbepaling gepland. De uitslag was 8,2 nmol/l. Vanaf dat moment kwam het vooral aan op geduld en wachten. Iedere dag gingen we even langs bij Herón. Zo konden hij en Emma rustig aan elkaar wennen. Maar eigenlijk was dat wennen nauwelijks nodig. Tussen die twee was het liefde op het eerste gezicht. Er was meteen chemie, nieuwsgierigheid en een zachte vanzelfsprekendheid die je niet kunt afdwingen. Later in de week, op vrijdag, lieten we nog een keer progesteron prikken. Dit keer kregen we het advies om de volgende dag te laten dekken. Die vrijdag bleven we rustig in het appartement. Even geen drukte, even alles laten bezinken. Emma kreeg haar rust, en wij wachtten af. Zaterdagochtend reden we opnieuw naar Herón. Daar stond hij al luid blaffend op ons te wachten, alsof hij precies wist dat dit een belangrijke dag was. Bij een dekking draait alles om het juiste tijdstip, de juiste chemie en vooral geduld. Deze keer hebben we bewust gekozen voor één dekking, zodat er geen grote verschillen in geboortegewicht kunnen ontstaan door verschil in lengte van de dracht binnen het nestje. De dekking verliep goed. Een bijzonder moment, vol spanning, vertrouwen en hoop. Daarna namen we afscheid van Olga en Herón. Olga is een betrokken Pyr-eigenaar, met liefde voor het ras en voor haar honden. Natuurlijk houden we haar van A tot Z op de hoogte van alles wat er komen gaat. Op zondag vertrokken we weer richting huis. Met een auto vol spullen, twee tevreden meisjes en ons hart vol mooie herinneringen aan Tsjechië. Voor Emma was dit niet zomaar een reis. Het was haar avontuur. Een reis vol nieuwe indrukken, warme ontmoetingen, liefde op het eerste gezicht en een stille hoop op iets heel moois. Emma is 3,5 week drachtig Emma is, nadat ze is teruggekomen van haar lover Heron, heel ander gedrag gaan vertonen. Wat meteen opviel, was dat ze voor de andere teven nog steeds heel interessant bleef ruiken. Dat is meestal een teken dat haar progesteron nog hoog is. Ook kon ze soms wat kribbig reageren wanneer pup Nieve weer bovenop haar wilde springen. En dat is eigenlijk niets voor Emma, want zij is de goedheid zelf. Rust, een groeiend buikje en grotere tepels Emma is nu drieënhalve week drachtig. Ze neemt duidelijk haar rust en ligt graag op de bank, het liefst op haar rug met haar buikje omhoog. Daardoor konden we de afgelopen week goed zien dat haar tepels groter worden. Ze eet goed, speelt nog graag en de dagelijkse wandeling blijft echt het hoogtepunt van haar dag. We houden haar in goede conditie met fijne wandelingen in het bos en bij het meer. Dat vindt ze heerlijk, zeker omdat Emma ook gek is op water. De voorbereidingen beginnen langzaam We gaan nu rustig beginnen met de voorbereidingen. Zoals altijd willen we overal op voorbereid zijn: van baby-geitenmelkpoeder tot warmtekruiken, een slijmafzuiger en alles wat er verder bij komt kijken. Ik kijk vol spanning en liefde uit naar dit nestje. Emma is de derde generatie die hier op de boerderij geboren is. Haar kleintjes zullen de vierde generatie zijn. Amber, Merle en Emma zijn allemaal nazaten van mijn Isidore. Alle kleintjes blijven in ons hart Alle pups die hier geboren zijn, zitten voor altijd in ons hart. Ik weet nog iedere naam en bij welk nest ze hoorden. Ze zijn allemaal belangrijk voor ons — ze weten alleen zelf niet hoe belangrijk ze zijn. We houden van ze. Het is heerlijk om hier zo ontspannen naartoe te leven. We bereiden Emma zo goed mogelijk voor, zonder stress. Het mag haar, en de pups die geboren gaan worden, aan niets ontbreken. Het verloop van de zwangerschap van Emma Een bijzondere tijd voor Emma We zien bij Emma inmiddels een duidelijke toename van haar buikomvang. Ze is ongeveer 4 cm gegroeid, wat in dit vroege stadium van de dracht, rond de vijfde week, heel normaal kan zijn. Ook haar tepels beginnen te verkleuren en we merken dat ze meer rust neemt en langer slaapt. Daarom gaan we haar vanaf nu voorzichtig wat meer voeding geven, zodat ze voldoende ondersteuning krijgt tijdens deze belangrijke periode. Rust staat voorop We hebben er bewust voor gekozen om geen echo te laten maken. Voor Emma vinden wij rust op dit moment het allerbelangrijkst. Een echo zou voor haar onnodige stress kunnen geven, en stress kan juist een negatieve invloed hebben. Daarom kiezen we ervoor om haar zo rustig en ontspannen mogelijk door deze periode heen te begeleiden. Emma wordt heerlijk in de watten gelegd. De ventilator staat aan en we zorgen ervoor dat de kamer koel blijft door het zonlicht zo veel mogelijk buiten te houden. Met dit warme weer vraagt dat extra aandacht, want een kamer op temperatuur brengen is vaak makkelijker dan een kamer koel houden. Genieten van de vroege ochtend en late avond Ondanks de warmte wandelt Emma nog iedere dag. We gaan rond 7 uur ’s ochtends naar het bos, wanneer het nog heerlijk koel is. Dat zijn fijne momenten waarop ze rustig kan bewegen en genieten van de frisse lucht. ’s Ochtends vroeg en ’s avonds laat speelt ze buiten nog graag met haar stiefmoeder Liena en met Bente. Zo komen we samen de warme dagen wel door. Voor de aankomende pupjes wordt dit warme weer natuurlijk ook een kleine uitdaging, maar we doen er alles aan om Emma zo comfortabel mogelijk te houden. Een nestje met een bijzondere familiegeschiedenis Dit nestje is voor ons heel bijzonder. Grootvader Romeo is aanwezig, net als overgrootoma Amber. En oma Merle kijkt vanaf boven met ons mee. Dat maakt dit nestje extra waardevol en emotioneel. Het is een hoogtepunt binnen onze fokkerij: deze pupjes worden de vierde generatie die hier bij ons geboren wordt. En dat alles komt voort uit de lijn van mijn geliefde Isidore. Een lijn die voor ons niet alleen belangrijk is op papier, maar vooral diep in ons hart leeft. We kijken ernaar uit We kijken enorm uit naar dit nestje. Zoals altijd zullen we ongeveer 15 weken intens genieten van alles wat erbij hoort: de zwangerschap, de geboorte, het opgroeien van de pupjes en alle kleine bijzondere momenten daartussen. Voor ons is dit de perfecte zomer. Een zomer vol verwachting, zorg, liefde en nieuw leven. We houden jullie natuurlijk op de hoogte van het verdere verloop van Emma’s zwangerschap. Emma’s zwangerschap – een tijd van rust, liefde en verwachting Emma wordt met de dag ronder. Haar buik groeit zichtbaar en alles aan haar vertelt dat er kleine wondertjes onderweg zijn. De wandelingen worden inmiddels wat korter. Ze loopt nog graag mee, maar zodra we thuiskomen, zoekt ze al snel haar rust op. En eerlijk is eerlijk: wanneer je zwanger bent, heb je zo je voordelen. Slapen op de bank, meerdere keren per dag iets lekkers eten en vooral heel veel aandacht krijgen. In huis houden we de roedel goed in de gaten. Er mag gespeeld worden, maar niet te wild. Emma moet haar rust kunnen bewaren. Gelukkig voelt iedereen aan dat deze tijd anders is. Alsof er een zachte spanning in huis hangt, een verwachting die we allemaal met ons meedragen. Ook krijgt Emma regelmatig bezoek van aspirant-pupkopers. Ze geniet duidelijk van alle aandacht. Ze laat zich graag bewonderen en aaien, alsof ze weet dat niet alleen zij, maar ook haar toekomstige pups al met liefde worden verwacht. Emma lijkt in zoveel op haar moeder Merle. Dat raakt me steeds opnieuw. Merle kon tijdens haar bevalling tussen de weeën en geboortes door hazenslaapjes doen. Toen vond ik dat bijzonder om te zien. Nu weet ik dat dit bij Emma misschien ook kan gebeuren, en dat geeft rust. Sommige dingen zitten diep in de lijn, in het lichaam, in het vertrouwen van moeder op dochter. We kijken enorm uit naar het nestje. Naar de eerste zachte kreetjes, de heerlijke puppylucht en dat overweldigende geluk wanneer je die kleine wondertjes voor het eerst ziet. Vier weken lang zal ik alles in mij opnemen. Iedere zucht, ieder stapje, het openen van de oogjes, het groeien van dag tot dag. Vaak wordt mij gevraagd of het niet moeilijk is om de pups straks af te staan. Natuurlijk is dat moeilijk. Ze liggen eerst onder mijn vleugels, veilig en warm, en ze worden een stukje van mijn hart. Maar na die eerste periode zijn ze ook toe aan verandering. Aan ontdekken, groeien, avontuur en een eigen thuis. En bij mij leven ze voort in mijn hart. Met af en toe een berichtje, een foto of een teken van hoe het met ze gaat, weet mijn hart dat het goed is. In deze spannende tijd heeft Emma veel steun aan Liena. Liena beschermt haar, begeleidt haar, stelt haar gerust en overlaadt haar met liefde. Ze is Emma’s houvast. Het is ontroerend om te zien hoe vanzelfsprekend die band is. Alsof Liena precies weet wat Emma nodig heeft. Na de geboorte zullen Emma en ik ons de eerste drie weken in alle rust terugtrekken. Die eerste tijd is van ons samen, van Emma en haar pups. Daarna zullen Liena en Bente voorzichtig kennismaken. Wanneer de pups later naar buiten gaan, zullen Liena en Bente Emma vergezellen. Samen zullen ze waken, begeleiden en helpen bij het grootbrengen van het kleine grut. Het is een bijzondere tijd. Een tijd van wachten, zorgen, dromen en liefhebben. Iedere dag brengt ons dichter bij het moment waarop Emma moeder wordt. En wij mogen getuige zijn van dat stille, grote wonder. Emma’s pups – bevalling en de eerste drie weken De bevalling van Emma begon vijf dagen vóór de uitgerekende 63 dagen. Dat is altijd even spannend, want een vroegere geboorte brengt toch extra risico’s met zich mee. Maar Emma bleef zo kalm, dat ik zelf automatisch ook rustig bleef. Ze gaf mij vertrouwen, alsof ze precies wist wat ze moest doen. Na ongeveer twee uur weeën zag ik de eerste persweeën. Vijftien minuten later werd het eerste meisje geboren. Ze woog ruim boven de 600 gram, wat best een flink gewicht is voor een pasgeboren pup. Ze werd geboren in haar vlies, in de vruchtzak. Alle vier de pups zijn trouwens zo geboren. Dat zien we vaker wanneer een bevalling iets eerder op gang komt. Na het voorzichtig breken van het vlies en het droogwrijven van de pup, legde ik haar bij Emma. Daarna liet ik de natuur haar gang gaan. En wat bleek Emma een geboren moeder te zijn. Vanaf het eerste moment wist ze precies wat ze moest doen. Alle pups zijn goed op gewicht. Eentje is zelfs duidelijk de winnaar met 850 gram. Het is prachtig om te zien hoe sterk ze groeien en hoe tevreden ze erbij liggen. Nu de dagen verstrijken en we zien hoe zorgzaam Emma is, merken we ook wat dat met de pups doet. Haar rust, liefde en verzorging hebben duidelijk hun weerspiegeling op de kleintjes. Ze zijn rustig, tevreden en voelen zich zichtbaar veilig bij hun moeder. De oogjes zijn inmiddels geopend en ze stappen dapper in het rond. Iedere dag worden ze een beetje sterker, een beetje wakkerder en een beetje meer zichzelf. Ik geniet intens van deze eerste drie weken. Stiekem zijn ze nog heel even van mij. Die kleine lijfjes, hun zachte geluidjes, hun geur en hun lieve karaktertjes maken deze tijd zo kostbaar en bijzonder. Alle vier hebben ze een heerlijk karakter. En net als hun moeder zijn ze gek op eten. Gelukkig blijven ze nog wat langer bij ons. Dat betekent dat we een zomer tegemoet gaan vol puppyknuffels, kleine stapjes, nieuwe ontdekkingen en heel veel liefde. De kleintjes groeien hard. Ze stappen dapper door de welpenbox en laten hun stemmetjes al goed horen. Blaffen kunnen ze inmiddels luid en duidelijk! Het is zo mooi om te zien hoe ze iedere dag meer gaan ontdekken en steeds meer aanwezig zijn. Emma is een zachte moeder, net als haar eigen moeder. Bij haar mag alles. Ze houdt haar pups keurig schoon, vertroetelt ze en knuffelt ze met overvloed. Het is ontroerend om te zien hoeveel liefde en geduld ze voor haar kleintjes heeft. Onze nachtelijke uitlaatmomentjes zijn inmiddels een klein hoogtepunt geworden. Door de hitte is lang buiten blijven overdag geen optie, maar ’s nachts kan Emma even rennen, ontspannen en bijkomen van de warmte. Vaak is Noah dan bij haar. Van slapen komt er nu niet veel terecht, maar zelf ook even uitblazen in de nachtelijke rust is eigenlijk ook heerlijk. De karaktertjes van de kleintjes zijn nu al steeds beter te onderscheiden. Het reutje is heel lief en knuffelen is duidelijk zijn grootste hobby. Hij geniet van aandacht en zoekt graag de warmte van onze handen. Meisje wit ligt het liefst in je armen of dicht bij haar moeder. Ze is zacht, tevreden en houdt duidelijk van geborgenheid. De kleinste, met het donkerste masker, is actief en altijd onderweg. Ze stapt graag in het rond en lijkt nu al nieuwsgierig naar alles om haar heen. Het laatste meisje, met het wit aan haar oor, is rustig en alert. Ze ligt graag in het gezelschap van de anderen en neemt alles aandachtig in zich op. Nu de oogjes open zijn en de tandjes beginnen door te komen, gaan we een nieuwe fase in. Ze zijn meer wakker, beginnen te spelen en veranderen langzaam in vier kleine hongerwolfjes. De geluidjes tijdens het drinken, het smakken en tevreden sabbelen, zijn geweldig om te horen. Omdat het er maar vier zijn, hebben ze alle ruimte. Als de ene borst leeg is, schuiven ze gewoon door naar de volgende. Zo eenvoudig kan het zijn in de wereld van een pupje. Afgelopen week hebben we bezoek gehad van onze dochter Fleur. Ze kwam vanuit Berlijn naar de vier kleine wondertjes en was vanaf het eerste moment helemaal verliefd op ze. Vandaag is ze weer vertrokken, met een hart vol puppyliefde. Pupjes knuffelen is volgens Fleur de ideale vakantie. Honden hebben in ons gezin altijd een belangrijke plek gehad. Al onze honden zijn onderdeel van ons dagelijks leven. We kennen van iedere hond de aandachtspunten, de kleine gewoontes en de rituelen. Dat verandert ook gedurende hun leven, en juist daarom blijven we steeds goed naar ze kijken. Onze kinderen zijn hier altijd nauw bij betrokken geweest. Zij kennen onze honden, groeien mee in alles wat er gebeurt en zijn ook betrokken bij de pups die hier worden geboren. Dat maakt deze tijd extra bijzonder. De pups worden niet alleen door Emma verzorgd, maar ook omringd door vertrouwde handen, zachte stemmen en heel veel liefde. Van dit nestje gaan straks drie pups naar Denemarken. Mijn dochter en ik zullen de pups zelf brengen, zodat de reis met zo min mogelijk stress verloopt. We willen dat hun start in hun nieuwe leven zo rustig en liefdevol mogelijk is. Maar hoe mooi het ook is dat ze fijne nieuwe families krijgen, het afscheid valt ons altijd zwaar. Voor mij, maar ook voor mijn dochter. Je verzorgt ze vanaf hun eerste ademhaling, je ziet ze groeien, je houdt ze vast, je leert hun karaktertjes kennen en dan komt toch het moment dat je ze moet loslaten. Gelukkig weten we dat deze kleintjes nog een mooie tijd bij ons blijven. Tot die tijd genieten we van ieder moment, ieder stapje, ieder geluidje en iedere puppyknuffel. Diary – Emma’s pregnancy Emma’s adventure to the Czech Republic Emma is the sweetest girl. Gentle, loving, cheerful, and with that special expression that so often reminds us of her mother, Merle. There is something in her eyes, something familiar and touching. As if Merle left a little piece of herself behind in Emma. A very special adventure began for Emma. Together with her great friend Bente, we travelled to the Czech Republic. Whenever I make a longer journey with my dogs, I always turn it into something special. I say to the girls: “Come on girls, we’re going on an adventure!” And as soon as they hear those words, they go completely wild. Tails up, eyes full of expectation, ready for whatever is coming. This time was no different. In the middle of the night, we got into the fully packed car. Everything was with us, the girls were safe and content in the back, and we set off towards the Czech Republic. A long journey, but with a very special purpose. The first day, of course, we went to meet them. Not only for Emma and Herón, but also for us as people. We received a warm welcome from Olga, a kind and hospitable woman with a big heart for animals. The girls were spoiled with treats, and we were given coffee and something nice to eat. It immediately felt right. The Czech Republic showed itself from its most beautiful side. A wonderful country for walking, with lots of space, peace and friendly people. Emma and Bente soon had the greatest fun. Together with Herón, they ran around, played, and barked enthusiastically at the neighbour’s dogs. It was beautiful to see how relaxed everything was. But for Emma, the journey had only truly begun. After the long drive, rest was important, so we went back to our apartment. The next day, the first progesterone test was planned. The result was 8.2 nmol/l. From that moment on, it mainly came down to patience and waiting. Every day, we visited Herón for a little while. That way, he and Emma could calmly get used to each other. But in truth, there was hardly any need for that. Between those two, it was love at first sight. There was immediate chemistry, curiosity, and a soft, natural connection that cannot be forced. Later in the week, on Friday, we had another progesterone test done. This time, we were advised to let the mating take place the following day. That Friday, we stayed quietly in the apartment. No fuss, just time to let everything settle. Emma had her rest, and we waited. On Saturday morning, we drove to Herón again. He was already waiting for us, barking loudly, as if he knew exactly that this was an important day. With a mating, everything depends on the right timing, the right chemistry, and above all, patience. This time, we deliberately chose one mating, so that there would not be large differences in birth weight caused by differences in the length of the pregnancy within the litter. The mating went well. A special moment, full of excitement, trust and hope. Afterwards, we said goodbye to Olga and Herón. Olga is a dedicated Pyr owner, with love for the breed and for her dogs. Of course, we will keep her informed from beginning to end about everything that is to come. On Sunday, we left for home again. With a car full of things, two content girls, and our hearts full of beautiful memories of the Czech Republic. For Emma, this was not just a journey. It was her adventure. A journey full of new impressions, warm encounters, love at first sight, and a quiet hope for something very beautiful. Emma is 3.5 weeks pregnant Since Emma came back from her lover Herón, she has started to behave quite differently. What immediately stood out was that she still smelled very interesting to the other females. This is usually a sign that her progesterone is still high. She could also be a little grumpy at times when puppy Nieve wanted to jump on top of her again. And that is really not like Emma at all, because she is kindness itself. Rest, a growing belly and larger nipples Emma is now three and a half weeks pregnant. She is clearly taking her rest and loves lying on the sofa, preferably on her back with her little belly up. Because of this, we could clearly see over the past week that her nipples are getting larger. She eats well, still enjoys playing, and the daily walk remains the real highlight of her day. We keep her in good condition with lovely walks in the forest and by the lake. She loves that, especially because Emma is also crazy about water. The preparations are slowly beginning We are now calmly starting with the preparations. As always, we want to be prepared for everything: from baby goat milk powder to warm water bottles, a mucus aspirator, and everything else that may be needed. I am looking forward to this litter with so much excitement and love. Emma is the third generation born here on the farm. Her little ones will be the fourth generation. Amber, Merle and Emma are all descendants of my Isidore. All the little ones stay in our hearts All the puppies born here remain forever in our hearts. I still remember every name and which litter they belonged to. They are all important to us — they just do not know themselves how important they are. We love them. It feels wonderful to look forward to this in such a relaxed way. We are preparing Emma as well as possible, without stress. Emma, and the puppies that are going to be born, must lack nothing. The Progress of Emma’s Pregnancy A Special Time for Emma We can now clearly see that Emma’s belly is growing. Her abdominal circumference has increased by about 4 cm, which can be completely normal at this early stage of pregnancy, around the fifth week. Her nipples are also beginning to change colour, and we notice that she is resting more and sleeping longer. That is why we will now carefully start giving her a little more food, so she receives the support she needs during this important time. Peace and Rest Come First We have consciously chosen not to have an ultrasound done. For Emma, we feel that peace and rest are the most important things right now. An ultrasound could cause her unnecessary stress, and stress may have a negative effect. For that reason, we have decided to guide her through this period as calmly and gently as possible. Emma is being wonderfully pampered. The fan is on, and we are keeping the room cool by making sure it is not exposed to direct sunlight. With this warm weather, that needs extra attention, because bringing a room to a comfortable temperature is often easier than cooling it down. Enjoying the Early Mornings and Late Evenings Despite the heat, Emma still goes for a walk every day. We go to the forest around 7 o’clock in the morning, when it is still lovely and cool. These are peaceful moments where she can move gently and enjoy the fresh air. Early in the morning and late in the evening, she still likes to play outside with her stepmother Liena and with Bente. Together, we will get through these warm days. For the little puppies to come, this warm weather will also be a small challenge, but we are doing everything we can to keep Emma as comfortable as possible. A Litter With a Very Special Family History This litter is very special to us. Grandfather Romeo is present, as well as great- grandmother Amber. And grandmother Merle is watching over us from above. That makes this litter even more precious and emotional. For us, this is a true highlight in our breeding. These puppies will be the fourth generation born here with us. And all of this comes from the line of my beloved Isidore. A line that is not only important to us on paper, but above all lives deeply in our hearts. We Are Looking Forward to This Litter We are very much looking forward to this litter. As always, we will enjoy around 15 wonderful weeks of everything that comes with it: the pregnancy, the birth, watching the puppies grow, and all the small, special moments in between. For us, this is the perfect summer. A summer full of expectation, care, love, and new life. Of course, we will keep you updated on the further progress of Emma’s pregnancy. Emma’s Pregnancy – A Time of Rest, Love and Expectation Emma is growing rounder by the day. Her belly is becoming more visible, and everything about her tells us that little miracles are on their way. Her walks are a little shorter now. She still enjoys coming along, but once we are home, she soon looks for a quiet place to rest. And to be honest, when you are pregnant, you do have certain privileges: sleeping on the sofa, eating several times a day, and receiving lots and lots of attention. At home, we keep a close eye on the pack. They are allowed to play, of course, but not too wildly. Emma needs to be able to keep her peace and rest. Fortunately, everyone seems to sense that this time is different. It is as if a soft kind of excitement fills the house, an expectation we all carry with us. Emma also receives regular visits from future puppy families. She clearly enjoys all the attention. She loves being admired and stroked, almost as if she knows that not only she, but also her future puppies, are already being awaited with so much love. In so many ways, Emma is the image of her mother, Merle. That touches me again and again. During her labour, Merle would take little naps between contractions and births. At the time, I found it remarkable to witness. Now I know that this may happen with Emma too, and that gives me peace. Some things run deep in the line, in the body, in the trust passed from mother to daughter. We are looking forward so much to the litter. To the first tiny cries, the wonderful scent of puppies, and that overwhelming happiness that washes over you when you see those little miracles for the very first time. For four weeks, I will take it all in: every sigh, every little step, the opening of their eyes, and the way they grow from day to day. People often ask me whether it is not difficult to let the puppies go. Of course it is difficult. At first, they are under my wings, safe and warm, and they become a little piece of my heart. But after that first period, they are also ready for change. Ready to discover, to grow, to find adventure and their own loving home. And with me, they live on in my heart. With the occasional message, photo, or little update about how they are doing, my heart knows that all is well. During this exciting time, Emma finds so much support in Liena. Liena protects her, guides her, reassures her, and surrounds her with love. She is Emma’s anchor. It is touching to see how natural their bond is, as if Liena knows exactly what Emma needs. After the birth, Emma and I will retreat into peace and quiet for the first three weeks. That first time belongs to us: to Emma and her puppies. After that, Liena and Bente will be introduced carefully. Later, when the puppies go outside, Liena and Bente will accompany Emma. Together, they will watch over them, guide them, and help raise the little ones. It is a very special time. A time of waiting, caring, dreaming, and loving. Every day brings us closer to the moment Emma becomes a mother. And we are allowed to witness that quiet, beautiful miracle. Emma’s puppies – the first three weeks Emma’s delivery began five days before the expected 63 days. That is always a little worrying, because an earlier birth can bring extra risks. But Emma remained so calm that I automatically stayed calm too. She gave me confidence, as if she knew exactly what she had to do. After about two hours of contractions, I saw the first real pushing contractions. Fifteen minutes later, the first little girl was born. She weighed well over 600 grams, which is quite a good weight for a newborn puppy. She was born inside her membrane, in the amniotic sac. In fact, all four puppies were born this way. We often see this when a birth starts a little earlier. After carefully breaking the sac and gently drying the puppy, I placed her with Emma. Then I let nature take its course. And Emma turned out to be a born mother. From the very first moment, she knew exactly what to do. All the puppies are gaining weight well. One of them is clearly the winner, weighing 850 grams. It is wonderful to see how strong they are becoming and how content they are. As the days pass and we see how caring Emma is, we also notice the effect this has on the puppies. Her calmness, love and care are clearly reflected in the little ones. They are peaceful, content and visibly feel safe with their mother. Their eyes have now opened and they are bravely stepping around. Every day they become a little stronger, a little more awake and a little more themselves. I am enjoying these first three weeks intensely. Secretly, they are still mine for just a little while longer. Those tiny bodies, their soft little sounds, their smell and their sweet characters make this time so precious and special. All four of them have wonderful characters. And just like their mother, they love food. Luckily, they will stay with us a little longer. That means we are heading into a summer filled with puppy cuddles, tiny steps, new discoveries and so much love. The little ones are growing fast. They bravely walk through the puppy box and are already making their little voices heard. They can bark loud and clear now! It is so beautiful to see how they discover more every day and become more and more present. Emma is a gentle mother, just like her own mother. With her, everything is allowed. She keeps her puppies beautifully clean, spoils them and cuddles them with endless love. It is touching to see how much patience and affection she has for her little ones. Our nighttime potty walks have become a little highlight. Because of the heat, staying outside for long during the day is not an option, but at night Emma can run a little, relax and recover from the warmth. Noah is often with her at night. There is not much sleep at the moment, but getting some fresh air ourselves in the quiet of the night is actually lovely too. The characters of the little ones are already becoming easier to recognize. The little boy is very sweet, and cuddling is clearly his favorite hobby. He enjoys attention and loves the warmth of our hands. The white girl prefers to lie either in your arms or close to her mother. She is gentle, content and clearly loves feeling safe and close. The smallest one, with the darkest mask, is active and always on the move. She loves stepping around and already seems curious about everything around her. The last girl, with the white on her ear, is calm and alert. She likes lying in the company of the others and quietly takes everything in. Now that their eyes are open and their little teeth are starting to come through, we are entering a new phase. They are awake more often, they are beginning to play, and they are slowly turning into four little hungry wolves. The sounds they make while drinking, the little smacking and satisfied suckling, are wonderful to hear. Because there are only four of them, they have plenty of space. When one teat is empty, they simply move on to the next one. Life can be that simple in the world of a little puppy. Last week we had a visit from our daughter Fleur. She came from Berlin to see the four little miracles and fell completely in love with them from the very first moment. Today she left again, with a heart full of puppy love. According to Fleur, cuddling puppies is the perfect holiday. Dogs have always had an important place in our family. All our dogs are part of our daily life. We know each dog’s needs, little habits and rituals. These things also change throughout their lives, and that is why we always keep looking closely at them. Our children have always been closely involved in this. They know our dogs, grow along with everything that happens here and are also involved with the puppies born in our home. That makes this time even more special. The puppies are not only cared for by Emma, but are also surrounded by familiar hands, soft voices and so much love. Three puppies from this litter will later go to Denmark. My daughter and I will bring the puppies ourselves, so the journey will be as stress-free as possible. We want the start of their new lives to be as calm and loving as possible. But no matter how beautiful it is that they will have wonderful new families, saying goodbye is always hard for us. For me, and also for my daughter. You care for them from their very first breath, you watch them grow, you hold them, you get to know their little characters — and then the moment still comes when you have to let them go. Luckily, we know that these little ones will stay with us for a lovely while longer. Until then, we will enjoy every moment, every little step, every sound and every puppy cuddle.
